Well I've decided to move my blog to Tumblr. The cleanliness of Tumblr's design really excites me and will make me blog more frequently. A couple of new prints for sale. Here. The ram was a struggle to finish, but it was a good exercise in problem solving. I like the way it turned out. The pheasant was really fun to paint and came easily. Why the difficulty of these two drawings was so extreme I have no idea. Weird how that happens sometimes.

Also, I'm starting to put up the wood slice paintings I didn't sell up in the shop for sale. They should all be up by today or tomorrow. Thank you all for continuing to follow my little progress blog. It's given me such encouragement.

Danni from Oh Hello Friend rented all this amazing found furniture for her booth and put it together in such a pleasing way. Not to mention her handmade wares were so lovely as always.

The Fugu Fugu Press booth shared with Ribbit Stopit (below). Their cards and wooden puzzles and animals go so nicely together. We bought a couple of the Mother's Day cards for our mothers. I'm going to have to buy some of those wooden animals sometime. They're so cool!

Rebe makes incredible dresses, coats and other small house ware items that are so detailed and of such high quality. I have been desiring one of her dresses for a few years now. Hopefully someday soon... Her daughter, Hillery Sproatt, makes amazing embroidered house wares and drawings. I'd really like to own one of her original drawings.

Wolfum has amazing textiles and prints on wood items such as coasters and animal bookends.

Sass and Peril make cute tote bags and prints from their simple yet striking graphics.

These Lulu Dee and Homako booths are not related I just happened to have them both in the same picture. Lulu Dee makes these adorable prints while Homako creates awesome jewelry pieces out of felt and other materials.

Terri Planty makes sweet terrariums with tiny people in them. We bought one for Malachi's mom.

I bought a teacup from Eri Sugimoto's booth. She and her partner make the most beautiful ceramics and they are both so nice.

Last but not least, my friend Abby's booth called Bedford Falls Headwear makes gorgeous fancy headwear pieces and created an amazing booth (which I failed to get a good picture of) kind of on the fly while visiting her family here (she brought all her goods from New Orleans).

A couple of my other favorite booths were Kevin Tong Illustration and GreenAid who make seedbombs and super cool sling shots.

I just got these in the mail today and am super excited! I love business cards and I think I am pretty pleased with how these turned out. I kept the general idea of the old ones, but had a lot more fun this time painting the artwork for these instead of screen printing. They were printed by Mama's Sauce, a pretty awesome print shop in Florida.

Malachi was selling his comics goods at WonderCon in San Francisco this past weekend! Although we got back on Monday, we didn't have any internet until last night so that's why I've been a little out of the online loop. Anyways, I got to hang out with some cool friends, namely Jordan Lebrecht and Anna Hurley, and got to visit some cool places! We saw a lighthouse right outside of the city, visited a small beach right inside the city, and went to some awesome stores. Here are the stores we saw:

Perish Trust, a great antiques shop with beautiful presentation.

Pot and Pantry, an adorable store full of new and used kitchen goods. I bought some wooden measuring spoons.

Unionmade, a mens clothing store whose inventory is incredibly inspiring to me.

Gravel and Gold, a collection of home items, vintage items, books and clothing, all laid out in a very appealing way. I wanted one of their striped long sleeve shirts, but controlled myself.

We're moving to a new place in South Pasadena that I'm really excited about. It has wood floors and a bedroom and air conditioning, none of which we had in our old place. Hooray! Moving sucks though. I whitened these bones with hydrogen peroxide after roasting a chicken and making a chicken soup with the leftovers. It sounds kind of gross I suppose, but I'm actually quite proud of using as much of the animal as possible. It was my first whole roasted chicken! And now I get to put these small bones on a shelf with some pine cones and little ceramic vessels.

I recently re-watched The Life Aquatic and have been a bit obsessed with Cate Blanchett's character, Jane Winslett-Richardson. I'm always inspired by the idea of packing the bare minimum and going out on an adventurous trip. Richardson is a simple character, but has such a strong demeanor. She always carries around an old-fashioned tape recorder and microphone and wears safari-like clothing. I've probably included too many pictures in this post, but how can I not when the entire movie could be made into a book of beautiful still images?

happy valentine's day

Happy belated Valentine's Day! I meant to post this yesterday, but ended up being in a cooking frenzy. I made Malachi and I a dinner of roasted chicken with veloute sauce, pea and potato mash, creamy carrots (which ended up being a favorite) and fried custard squares. No pictures since it was dark and we were too hungry to care, but it all turned out quite well. The second picture is of the wrapping on Malachi's gift. I should take pictures of the comic book I gave him because it is so sweet looking!

This past weekend I bought two sweet books! The Camilla Engman book I've wanted for a long time and Reform School in Silverlake had it so I bought it. Malachi and I were actually in Silverlake to drop off some of his comics to sell at Secret Headquarters, the nicest comic book store I've ever been in. I bought The Wolf's Whistle book (about a small wolf who loves superhero comics) there. It's published by Nobrow, an amazing company in England. The illustrations are incredible. I want to buy many of Nobrow's art books and comics.

I've been quite interested in collecting doll clothes and accessories for my childhood doll as of late. I'm a bit embarrassed since it seems both childish and kind of old lady-ish at the same time. But I just can't help myself. Besides collecting I would also like to make my own clothes and things. Perhaps sometime I will be good enough at it to make some dolls for the Small Adventure shop? Anyways, here are a few of my new and old favorites.

These pants are high waisted and corduroy which is pretty awesome and the plaid shirt has real buttons instead of velcro. And the black tube underneath the glasses is a working kaleidoscope.

These are the newest cards that I have for sale in the shop! There are two different sets of cards. One is of 6 individual North American animals that I have painted in more detail and the second is a collection of simple tiny animals all on one card. The latter set is a set of 8 cards that are all the same. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out! They come packaged in a sturdy kraft cardboard box. Purchase them here and here.

I don't know if this is of much interest to you, but I am selling my camera. It's the camera that I've used to take all my product pictures and all the pictures on my blog. It's treated me well for a long time, but I'm finally ready to get something smaller and more portable for traveling and events and such. I'm selling it in a large package of 2 lenses, 2 batteries, charger, computer cord, black leather camera bag, 3 lens filters, and many little extras such as cleaning supplies and the original manual. Here are a few pictures from my booth at the San Francisco Holiday Renegade Craft Fair from a couple weekends ago. Unfortunately, it was pretty dark in the Concourse Convention Center so most of the pictures didn't turn out so great. But here are a few to give you an idea of what my first whole booth looked like. I've only ever split a booth with someone else so it was kind of cool to try it out by myself. You can see my mom sitting behind one of the tables. Thanks so much for your help, Mom!!

wood slice paintings

I made these wood slice paintings the week before the SF Renegade fair not expecting anyone to buy them. I was pleasantly surprised that I sold 4 out of 5! Two of them I sold to my booth neighbors, Paul and Kat. They were such cool people and I hope I get to see them again. My favorite wood slice was the woolly mammoth which Kat purchased along with the raccoon for her boyfriend Paul as a surprise Christmas present. I was sad to see the woolly mammoth go, but I am so glad that it went to a good home. The only one that didn't sell was the gray squirrel which I will put up in the Etsy shop. Tomorrow I will try to update the shop with the new stuff. Check back!

This holiday greeting is quite belated and I apologize. I've been recovering from the Renegades and trying to get over a bad cold. However, my husband will be working all night long tonight and sleeping most of tomorrow so I'll have lots of time to try to post some pictures from the SF Renegade fair and update the Etsy shop. It might be a bit sad spending most of New Year's by myself, but I'm actually looking forward to working on stuff and getting back into the groove I was in while working on illustrations and crafts for the fairs. These are some photos from the Holiday Renegade in LA from this past weekend. It went pretty well besides it being pretty hot outside! I didn't get a chance to walk around very much, but hopefully at the San Francisco Fair this upcoming weekend I'll get to take pictures of other booths and put them up here. One of the things I'm most excited about for the Christmas season is that I'm going to be giving away free gift wrap tie-on things for each Small Adventure item purchased both online and at the Renegade Craft Fairs. All the tie-on elements will come packaged in a little bag and will include plenty of hemp twine, a miniature pine cone twig, and a tiny plastic animal. I am a big fan of gifts being well packaged and this will certainly help make your presents look spiffy.

So visit the Small Adventure online shop or come visit me at the Renegade Craft Fair in LA or San Francisco and pick up a hand drawn print, set of cards or other handmade object and receive some pretty cool gift wrap materials. A much smaller version of the big Reusable Felt Envelope! I like the smaller size better. It's only slightly bigger than the Reusable Felt Air Mail Envelope and I've added some extra details. All these need are the "to" labels and I'll be all finished with them.

I haven't posted anything in awhile because of my laziness. But here's something I've been up to.

My friend Bryan wanted to give his polaroid-loving friend something special for her birthday. So I made a polaroid box (fashioned after one of the designs of the old polaroid boxes) with some "polaroids" that she can slip some of her own pictures into that have the name of her blog embroidered on them. I hope she likes it!

I will be getting ready for the upcoming holiday craft fairs and will try to be more diligent about posting my work-in-progress on here.

Hooray! It was a successful first Renegade. Thank you to everyone who was able to come visit the booth and say hi. It was so nice to see friends and meet some new people. Unfortunately I didn't have very much time to get up and walk around and take pictures of other booths, but there were some great crafts and talented people. The night before Renegade I screenprinted some double-sided business cards on a vibrant orange-red stock. I wouldn't have been able to finish them if my friend Paul hadn't helped me finish up a bunch of other stuff. Thanks Paul! My friends, Matt and Danica, just had a beautiful baby girl! Her name is Petra Sofia. Pretty cool name I think. So I made her a baby blanket with some fabrics I thought would look nice in their baby room.

I just got back from an awesome tour with my band, The Denouement! You can see some photos from the tour here. Now it's time to start making a whole bunch of stuff for the Renegade Craft Fair! I'm getting a bit nervous about it. Today I screen printed a bunch of boxes for the leaf pins that I make. There's a lot more to do! Hopefully I'll have time to post in process pictures these upcoming weeks.

It was my birthday last weekend and it was fun. Malachi and I walked around Little Tokyo in LA and Abbot-Kinney Street in Venice. I also got some cool presents! Another Come Home magazine to add to my meager collection, a Japanese craft book on felt animals, a wooden whistle, a SWEET backpack made in Peru and purchased at Reform School in Silverlake, and a couple of knitted animal finger puppets to add to another small collection I am starting. The knitted finger puppets are so beautifully made and were only $3 a piece! Thank you Malachi and my wonderful parents. :)

Just as I am writing this a package has arrived at my door from my Small Adventure partner, Anna Hurley! Oh boy! So much cool stuff! Delicious treats made by Anna herself that came in beautiful Quattro Stagioni jars and chocolate and pink meringues and a vintage box of erasers and little cards with cool drawings all wrapped in pretty fabric. And topped off with a birthday card printed by Fugu Fugu Press! Thank you Anna! You are too awesome of a friend to me.

Lastly, a super versatile skirt that my sister made me for my birthday using a striped fabric and a gray elastic waistband with pockets of equally awesome fabric! I put this one last because the pictures I took of it aren't very good. I should have also ironed it before I took a picture. But the skirt itself is so beautifully made. I have been wearing it all the time because it's so comfortable and the colors are perfect. Thank you sister! I couldn't have asked for a better friend to grow up with.

rose bowl arts and crafts festival!

I sat at my very own half booth today at the Rose Bowl Arts and Crafts Festival for the first time! Money-wise, I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, but there seemed to be a pretty fair amount of interest. I also got to talk to my cousin, Michelle of Green Suitcases, who shared the booth with me and made some great sales! I had a fantastic time and I would like to do it again as soon as possible. We found out that we got into the festival this past Friday night and had one day to throw together all the materials for a booth. Yikes! Next time we will be more prepared and our booth will definitely look awesomer. But I was surprised how well everything went considering the amount of time we had. The day was gloomier than expected and I had not dressed well for the weather. And now I'm sick! But still totally worth it.

Some designs for a postcard pack I'm in the midst of putting together for the shop! They will be postcards that represent each season so that you can send one to a special someone once every few months to let them know you're thinking of them year round.

So awhile ago both my and Malachi's bikes were stolen which kind of sucked. I really miss riding my bike. I've been looking around for replacement bikes and recently came across these amazing things that would be just perfect since they fold up super small and we could keep them inside our studio apartment and take them on the Metro. I would definitely get that cream and tan one and I think Malachi would really like the dark green and brown one. You can check out more information and other colors of these Strida bikes here.

In honor of the Oscars I picked some of my favorite Criterion Collection film covers to share with you all. Obviously I haven't included tons and tons of super sweet ones because there are too many! Also below I've included a couple of cool movie posters that I really like a lot. Do any of you have favorite movie posters or dvd covers?

If you've never seen Moon or Junebug, I highly recommend them. And if you like sharp, witty humor you should see Metropolitan.

Some basic sketches that I will color and make into a set of postcards soon. Our carpet is very ugly. This is also a test to see if this modified layout on my blog works! Bigger pictures are better.

I am experimenting with watercolors and drawing figures. Here is something I drew and painted the other day while it was rainy outside. Maybe eventually it will be a print for sale in the shop if I can get it to scan in well enough.

some new projects in the works

This is my second attempt at making a miniature stuffed llama and boy was it a failure. It ended up having a bunch of holes at the seams and after I had mended them all and was stuffing the llama before the last step I accidently tore a big hole right through the back leg. There was no mending it. So I gave up for now. Let's not even talk about my first attempt.

On a better note these are some painted and unpainted leaves that I will soon make into brooches to sell. These were painted by Malachi Ward.

a new elephant

A new elephant I made yesterday. It has a heart cross-stitched on it and button eyes. And one of my favorite fabrics. I will make a drawstring bag for it with a tag and put it up in the shop. Stay tuned for a miniature stuffed llama.

These mugs were hand painted by Malachi Ward for a few friends of ours. He will also be making things for Small Adventure! In the future I think we will have some hand painted mugs in the shop.

Here are some Star Trek pillows I made for some friends of mine. I haven't given them to our friends yet so don't tell. The coolest part is the vintage looking Star Trek fabric I found online. These pictures are not great but I was pretty pleased with how the pillows turned out.

I made some packaging for a larger than normal order. Just a little drawstring bag and some labels, but I think they came out pretty well. Someday I'd like to have a consistent identity for Small Adventure complete with business cards, stationery, tags and labels, drawstring bags, boxes and shipping supplies, as well as a matching look for the craft fair booth. But this is a small first step.

I'm sure many of you have seen this already, but Studio Violet has a new batch of reused porcelain pieces that are going to be for sale starting tomorrow night. The illustrations are so incredible and the printing job on the antique porcelain pieces is perfect. Look how awesome!
